Message from the Chairperson

I take this great opportunity to welcome you to Kabale University, and particularly to this second Multidisciplinary Research Dissemination Conference. Every academic institution has its traditions. Kabale University is known for striving to excel, as part of its motto, “Knowledge is the Future”. The people associated with this university will testify that over the last 10 years, Kabale University (as a public university) has fitted well in its intellectual traditions:  academic freedom, inspiring its membership to excel in everything they do, to do things right and to explore new horizons. Most members of Kabale University (staff and students) do agree that the management of this university has played a key role in facilitating the positive endeavors of all those trying to contribute to the achievements of this university. As the Organizing Committee of this conference, we take this opportunity to thank our Vice Chancellor and her Management Team for rendering support to this conference.

This conference is happening at a time when the government is implementing the National Development (NDPIV). The theme of NDPIV is; “Sustainable Industrialization for Inclusive Growth, Employment and Wealth Creation’’. We aligned the theme of our conference with that of NDPIV. Our theme is; “Harnessing the Power of Research for Inclusive Growth, Employment and Wealth Creation’’. The theme is appropriate for a deeper understanding of our country’s development challenges and the strategies taken by the government of Uganda, development partners, private sector, civil society, and research institutions to grow the economy and trigger society’s potential to contribute in all ways, towards sustainable development.

For Uganda to attain the goals of NDPIV, research and innovations are a central goal. In that spirit, this multi-disciplinary research dissemination conference intends to achieve the following objectives;

  • Fostering interdisciplinary collaborations,
  • Enhancing research capacity,
  • Promoting innovations and sharing them through exhibitions or conferences like this,
  • Contributing to the national development agenda,
  • Bridging the gap between research and innovations,
  • Increasing research uptake,
  • and increasing the impact of research and innovations at Kabale University at the national and international levels

In accordance with our main theme, we have ten sub-themes for this conference.

  • Computing, Emerging technologies and digital information
  • Mobility and accessible Tourism.
  • Governance, Accountability and Security.
  • Research and Innovations for Better Health.
  • Legal Frameworks for Social Inclusion and Sustainable Development.
  • Leveraging language, Literature and Communication Systems as Economic Resources.
  • Climate Change, Agriculture and Environment.
  • Role of the Private Sector in Development.

I welcome all of you. I thank the various subcommittees that make it possible for us to have this conference. Again, I thank Kabale University Management for all the support. I thank all of you, for coming to Kabale University-“the University without walls”. I wish you a fruitful Conference.
